Film Journal International offers a selective look at companies that pride themselves on their environmental initiatives.

Artech
Artech strives to be a leader in sustainable design. The Chattanooga, TN-based design firm wants to be known for “walking the walk”—from their internal procedures and practices to the final products that enhance their clients’ success. Whether it’s a new theatre that incorporates water-saving features or a new school with day-lighting controls and clerestory day-lighting for interior spaces, Artech understands the importance of thinking green within any project design being developed. Artech projects excellence in sustainable design as a product of a holistic approach to knowledge, education, creativity, teamwork, leadership and stewardship. (artechdgn.com)

Cinedigm
Cinedigm’s Digital Media Services virtually eliminates the use of fuel for transport of film for all movie theatres in the Cinedigm network. The company’s digital-cinema delivery includes the largest fully managed satellite network for electronic distribution of content including live 3D broadcasting. Exhibitors are provided “hands-free” content delivery, ingestion and playback, and content owners have their content delivered securely with confidence by the company that has delivered more than 250 movies, 10,000 trailers and millions of KDMs (Key Delivery Messages) via satellite from all of the major studios and a growing list of independent companies. Franklin Designs
No more fluorescent bulbs in your poster cases! “Think Green Lighting” technology is here. Franklin Designs’ innovative LED conversion kit for poster cases will take away the headache of changing out numerous fluorescent bulbs and ballasts. Their LED technology will shine bright and true under the harshest weather, worry-free in -60 degrees C/-76 degrees F or 85 degrees C/185 degress F. You’ll save 90% in energy costs using one-eighth the energy. Call 1-800-467-0641 to help save the environment while enjoying cost savings. (franklindesigns.com)

Klipsch
Klipsch is known for its Tractrix® Horn technology, which reproduces genuine lifelike sound and produces more output using less energy. In the professional cinema market, there’s typically a 3dB difference between Klipsch and other brands, which saves cinema operators a percentage of kilowatt hours per year. Adding to its efficiency story, Klipsch offers fully passive crossover screen channel networks on its KPT-535-4 and KPT-535 three-way cinema systems, reducing the number of amplifier channels and electronic crossovers in an installation. Because these speakers make it possible to drive each screen channel with a single amplifier, they cut power consumption even further. (klipsch.com)

MasterImage 3D
MasterImage 3D offers two 3D viewing eyewear solutions that are both environmentally responsible and cost-effective. Their MI-G200 glasses are reusable and designed for durability. They are made from a resilient polycarbonate and feature a coated polarizer that can be washed and reused at least 50 times.

MasterImage also offers the MI-G100, which is made from a recycled ABS material that can be recycled again at the end of its use. The MI-G100 is intended as a single-use product, but is hearty enough for a limited number of washes and multiple uses.

MasterImage 3D supplies “Recycle Drop Boxes” for every theatre exit and provides equipment and training for the washing and repackaging of all eyewear products. (masterimage3d.com)

Moviead
Moviead goes green with their latest development of digital title art and animated concession graphics. Delivery of both systems is made by downloading graphic files from their website to any LCD display. This totally eliminates the necessity of printing title art and back-lit concession mylars, as well as delivery by standard carrier or mail. For further information and sample graphics, go to their website at shopmoviead.com or call 1-800-329-4989, ext. 2010.
