Malco launches 'Rave for Faves' canned food drive

Aug 24, 2010

Malco Theatres is helping their communities during the month of September with a different twist on the traditional “canned food festival.”

During the “Rave for Faves Canned Food Fest,” moviegoers will have the opportunity to "rave about their fave" film genre of comedy, horror, action or drama with a monetary donation that will boost local food-bank coffers.

The company goal is to raise enough dough to pepper the shelves of the Mid-South Food Bank, as well as the Smyrna LaVergne Food Bank (Smyrna, TN), Project Homestead Food Pantry (Columbus, MS), the Mississippi Food Network, The Food Bank and Helping Neighbors Food Bank (Jonesboro, AR), the Ozark Food Bank (northwest Arkansas), Tri-State Food Bank (Owensboro, KY area), Southeast Missouri Food Bank (Sikeston, MO) and Holmes Chapel Food Bank (Monticello, AR).

"The idea was cultivated from manager feedback,” says Karen Scott, Malco’s director of marketing. “Malco has a longstanding tradition of supporting local organizations and we wanted to do something 'organically fresh' this time around. And if all the ingredients come together, it will be a recipe for success."

All Malco Theatres locations will have donation boxes at theatre guest services or at the concession stand, Sept. 1-30.

Based in Memphis, TN, Malco operates over 300 screens in 31 locations across the mid-South.
