ShowEast to honor Brazil Deputy Campos with Anti-Piracy Award

Aug 29, 2013

ShowEast will honor Brazil’s Deputy Guilherme Campos with the “Anti-Piracy Latin American Government Leadership” Award during International Day programming on Oct. 21 at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, Florida.

“Deputy Campos has played a leading role in Brazil to combat counterfeiting and piracy as part of efforts to protect consumers, promote respect for intellectual-property rights, and build capacity for enforcement, and he justly deserves this award,” stated Robert Sunshine, executive director of ShowEast.

As president of the Parliamentary Front to Combat Piracy (Frente Parlamentar de Combate à Pirataria) and a member of the Committee for Economic Development, Industry and Commerce of the Brazilian House of Deputies, Campos has worked to promote public/private sector cooperation and supported various anti-counterfeiting and piracy field programs and events, in conjunction with partners across the country, including Motion Picture Association America Latina, based in Brazil since 1945.

Campos is in his second term as a member of Brazil’s federal Chamber of Deputies. He was vice-mayor of Campinas between 2005 and 2007 and municipal secretary for commerce, industry, services and tourism between 2005 and 2006. He is one of the founders of the Social Democratic Party, created in September 2011, and was its first leader in the House of Representatives.

ShowEast will take place Oct. 21-24 and will feature screenings of major upcoming holiday films, sponsored events, timely seminars and a trade show.
