CineEurope to honor Vue's Alan McNair

Jan 24, 2014

CineEurope will present its 2014 “International Exhibitor of the Year” Award to Alan McNair, Vue Entertainment’s deputy CEO and CFO, on June 19 at Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) in Barcelona, Spain.

“Vue’s success as a market leader in the nine markets that it operates in is due in large part to Alan’s passion, commitment and over 25 years of experience in the cinema exhibition business,” stated Robert Sunshine, managing director of the annual convention.

Phil Clapp, president of the European cinema exhibition trade body UNIC, noted, “Through his work at UCI and of course Vue Entertainment, Alan is recognized by his peers as one of our outstanding cinema leaders. While not one to seek the limelight, the cinemas that he has helped establish and develop speak for themselves as achievements of a man of singular vision and commitment.”

McNair began in the media business as financial controller at CIC Video International, where, as part of a small team, he was responsible for establishing operations in 18 markets in Europe, Latin America and Asia. He joined United Cinemas International (UCI) in 1989 and in his time there rose to the position of executive VP and chief financial officer. He oversaw the establishment of operations in multiple international markets including Japan, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany and Austria. During his tenure, UCI established itself as a leading international multiplex operator.

In 1999, McNair left UCI and joined Tim Richards to start Vue Entertainment. Over the course of the past 14 years, Vue has become a world-class operator and developer of modern state-of-the-art multiplex cinemas known for their market-leading innovations and analytical approach to business. Following the acquisitions of CinemaxX in July 2012 and Multikino in August 2013, Vue Entertainment now operates over 150 cinemas with a total exceeding 1,300 screens in nine countries including the U.K., Germany, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, Portugal, Latvia, Lithuania and Taiwan. CineEurope will take place June 16-19 and will feature screenings of upcoming Hollywood films, sponsored events, informative seminars and a trade show. CineEurope is the Official Convention of the Union Internationale des Cinémas/International Union of Cinemas (UNIC).
