Martha's Vineyard Film Society announces summer lineup

July 3, 2013

With the summer season on Martha's Vineyard heating up, the Martha's Vineyard Film Society (MVFS) released its summer schedule.

In a special summer-only event, the Midnight@10 Summer Movie Series will allow audience members to get the most out of their day before settling in for a new, edgier film, a cult classic, or an old favorite like Jaws on the big screen again.

On Mondays and Tuesdays, the film center will mostly host non-movie events, ranging from stand-up comedy to poetry readings. A detailed listing can be found here.

Wednesdays will be devoted to "one-off" screenings of specialty films at the MVFC, focusing on contemporary issues. Some of these screenings will also be attended by filmmakers or special guests.

Thursday through Saturday will be devoted to new "first run" movies. This includes art-house-style, limited-release movies that Islanders are unlikely to see at any other theatre on the Island.

The MVFS will end its always-eventful weeks with a Sunday night Summer Institute film chosen by the Summer Institute. The schedule of these screenings are on the MVFS web site.Of course, the MVFS summer schedule ends with the 8th Annual Martha's Vineyard International Film Festival, held September 5-8.
