'Harry Potter' gets D-Box motion treatment

June 25, 2009

Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be the third feature film to utilize Quebec-based D-Box Technologies’ new motion-enhanced theatre seats.

Designers at D-Box develop motion effects for each film which move in sync with the onscreen action. Individual seats are equipped with adjustable intensity settings.

D-Box debuted in cinemas with Fast & Furious, followed by Terminator Salvation. Harry Potter is the first PG-rated movie to use the system.

In addition to the four existing U.S. movie theatres equipped with D-Box seats, two new cinemas will debut motion seating with the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Cineplex Odeon Queensway in Canada, the first location in Canada, and Galaxy Cannery Theatre in Las Vegas.

D-Box motion systems are also available at the Mann Chinese 6 Theatre in Hollywood; UltraStar Cinemas in Surprise, Ariz.; Galaxy Highland Theatre in Austin, Texas; and Theatres at Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn.
