Former NATO president Malcolm Green dies

Malcolm C. Green, former chairman of the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), died on Feb. 2 in Boston.

Green spent many years with Interstate Theatres, White Theaters, and then Cinema Centers with his partner, the late Bud Rifkin. Cinema Centers was later sold to Hoyts, where Green served as president. In addition to his work with NATO, he was a member of Theatre Owners of New England.

With NATO president Dick Fox, Bill Kartozian and Jerry Forman, Green undertook the task of making NATO a truly modern and national association, building alliances with the regional units, making the president a paid position, establishing a permanent presence in Los Angeles and Washington, DC, and ensuring a strong financial footing through partnership with NATO of California/Nevada in ShoWest. In recognition of his many contributions to exhibition, Green was named ShoWester of the Year in 1990.

Green is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sylvia, his children and grandchildren. Services will be held at the Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., Brookline, MA, on Feb. 4 at 11 a.m., with burial in Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Lyric Stage Company of Boston, 140 Clarendon St., Boston, MA 02116; the New Hampshire Music Festival, 52 Symphony Lane, Center Harbor, NH 03226; or VNA Care Network & Hospice, 5 Federal St., Danvers, MA 01923.
