Dec 7, 2012

Samuel “Sonny” Gourley has joined Marcus Theatres as VP of film. A Los Angeles resident, Gourley will establish a West Coast office for the circuit.

Gourley’s career spans nearly four decades in the film exhibition industry. “His industry stature, extensive knowledge gained through his long career as film buyer for AMC and the relationships he’s established will be a valuable asset for Marcus Theatres,” said Bruce J. Olson, president of Marcus Theatres.

“Being in the heart of Hollywood with his finger on the pulse of the industry, Sonny will provide invaluable insights and contributions to the continued growth and success of Marcus Theatres. His expertise and key relationships with the leading film production studios will further strengthen our film-booking team,” said Paul Silk, Marcus’ senior VP of film.

Prior to joining Marcus Theatres, Gourley served at AMC Entertainment for over 37 years, most recently as president of film programming. He also held the titles of executive VP of film marketing and head film buyer.

His industry recognition includes ShowEast Hall of Fame Inductee 2012, Variety Club “Heart of Show Business” Award 2012, ShowEast Humanitarian of the Year 2009, and County of Los Angeles Commendation Awards 2003-2010.
