Wanda Cinemas named CineAsia 'Exhibitor of the Year'

Oct 25, 2012

Wanda Cinemas will be honored with the CineAsia “Exhibitor of the Year” Award on Dec. 13 during the convention’s awards luncheon at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.

“Because of the remarkable contribution Wanda has made to cinema investment and development, it has become the number-one cinema operator in China,” noted Robert H. Sunshine, managing director of CineAsia.

Jerry Ye, general manager of Wanda Cinema Line Corporation, will accept the award on Wanda’s behalf.

Founded in 2005, Wanda Cinemas has built more than 100 cinemas and will own nearly 1,000 screens by the end of 2012. Box-office revenues totaled almost RMB1.8 billion in 2011, with over 40 million viewers. Chain operation ability, marketing innovations and service branding are the three primary elements of Wanda’s formula for success.

On Sept. 4, 2012 the Dalian Wanda Group completed the acquisition of AMC Entertainment Holdings, operator of AMC Theatres, currently the world’s largest cinema owner.

Previous recipients of the “Exhibitor of the Year” Award at CineAsia include Naoshi Yoda (TOEI & T-Joy); Irving Chee (Golden Screen Cinemas); Tushar Dhingra (BIG Cinemas); and Bob Vallone (Lark International Multimedia Ltd.). CineAsia 2012 will take place Dec. 11-13 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
