Malco Theatres begins 15th annual 'Wrapped with Love' campaign

Malco Theatres is presenting the 15th year of “Wrapped with Love” for the continued research of childhood diseases at Memphis’ St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
 
The annual fundraiser kicked off Thanksgiving Day and runs through Christmas Day at all Malco locations in Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Mississippi. Theatre employees sell the handmade film bows for $1.00 each. Each bow is made from actual film and represents about 24 frames, equivalent to approximately one second of a movie. The sound for each movie is encoded on the edge of the film and appears green. Malco believes these bows may eventually be collectors’ items as the film industry continues to progress into digital technology.
 
Since 1998, Malco Theatres’ “Wrapped with Love” event has raised over half a million dollars for St. Jude. Over 85,000 bows were sold during the 2012 campaign and this year’s goal is to sell an additional 87,000 pieces.
 
Memphis, TN-based Malco Theatres is a fourth-generation family-owned and operated business that will reach its 100th anniversary in 2015. Malco operates over 330 screens at 30 locations across the Mid-South, as well as bowling and family entertainment centers in Louisiana.
