The Will Rogers Institute and Carmike Cinemas presented the
Southern Regional Medical Center Foundation (SRMC) a check for
$40,000. The funds were awarded as a grant and will be used to
purchase a neonatal giraffe bed incubator for Southern Regional's
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
SRMC currently owns five incubator beds and has successfully
decreased intraventricular hemorrhage (brain bleeds) by 20 percent
in premature infants since implementing the use of the giraffe bed
incubator in the NICU's patient-care protocol.
"Over the years it has been a goal of the Foundation to fund the
purchase of at least 12 incubator beds. Miracles happen every day
in this special unit and with help of donors like the Will Rogers
Institute and Carmike Cinemas, we can ensure many more are to
come," said Andrea Mendez, development coordinator for the SRMC
Foundation.
