ShowEast to honor RealD co-founder Michael Lewis

Michael V. Lewis, chairman, CEO and co-founder of RealD will receive a Special Award of Achievement for Technical Contributions to the Motion Picture Industry at the ShowEast Convention on Oct. 24.

“I can’t think of a more deserving individual in our industry to receive this award than Michael,” noted ShowEast co-managing director Andrew Sunshine. “Michael is an innovator and visionary who has brought visual technologies to market that have truly redefined the cinema industry, benefiting exhibitors, studios, filmmakers and moviegoers everywhere.”

Lewis is a recognized innovator in entertainment and technology who has conceived and established cutting-edge businesses throughout his professional career. He has been responsible for building RealD into a globally recognized leader in visual technology for cinema, consumer electronics and professional applications.

RealD pioneered digital 3D cinema and today has the world's largest 3D cinema platform with upwards of 23,500 screens equipped with RealD 3D by 1,000 exhibitors in 74 countries. RealD's technology has also been adopted by major consumer-electronics companies and broadcasters for 3D entertainment in the home. Beyond entertainment, RealD continues to be widely recognized as a leader in visual technology with award-winning intellectual properties that have been utilized by research organizations including NASA, the military and Fortune 500 companies.

Lewis has received multiple awards including being named in The Hollywood Reporter “Digital Power 50” and as one of the publication’s “Innovative Voices.” In 2011 he was honored by the Producers Guild of America with the Vanguard Award in recognition of achievements in new media and technology. Under his leadership, RealD was named by Fast Company as one of "the World's Most Innovative Companies" in 2008 and 2010.Hel is an active member of multiple community and national business organizations, is a marquee donor to the Motion Picture & Television Fund and serves on the advisory board of the Arizona Cancer Center.
