DGT Servicos announces studio support for Latin American digital rollout

Nov 5, 2012

DGT Servicos de Monitoramento LTDA (DGT Brazil) announced the signing of separate non-exclusive digital-cinema deployment agreements with each of six major motion picture studios to assist exhibitors in the Latin American region to convert their cinemas to digital: Walt Disney Motion Pictures International and The Walt Disney Company (Brazil) Ltda, Twentieth Century Fox International Corp., Paramount Pictures Brasil Distribuidora de Filmes Ltda, Warner Bros. Pictures International, Sony Pictures Releasing International Corp., and Universal Pictures.

Subject to the terms and conditions under each agreement, the studios will each separately make certain contributions toward the financing of DCI-compliant digital-cinema projection systems when supplying films, if booked, in certain countries in digital form to DGT’s exhibitors.

"We are very pleased to receive this strong show of support for our digital-cinema rollout in Latin America, enabling moviegoers to enjoy a state-of-the-art, higher-quality theatrical experience," said DGT CEO Tieres Tavares, noting that the agreements address five countries in the region, with the possibility of including additional countries. "The independent exhibitors in Latin America are ready to convert 100% to digital projection, and appreciate the support of the U.S. studios to do so."

Daniel Benitez, chief operating officer of DGT and CEO of Bardan International, a leading distributor of d-cinema equipment in Latin America, added: “Independent exhibitors in Latin America have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. We are very happy to be able to bring our rollout to the table.”

Michael Karagosian, president of MKPE Consulting LLC, a leading Los Angeles-based consultancy in entertainment technology, led negotiations for DGT.
