COLOGNE, Germany – Germany’s association of film distributors, the VdF, has backed plans by the German Film Board to speed up the county’s conversion to digital cinema.
The film board has pledged more than $50 million in funding over the next five years to help convert German cinemas to digital and 3D screening technology.
But the roll out could be sabotaged by a suit a group of German multiplex operators have filed against the film board in protest of a mandatory levy exhibitors must pay the board to help finance German productions.
On Tuesday, film distributors through their weight behind the film board’s plan and said a few exhibitors should not endanger Germany’s digital infrastructure.
