Imax catches Rising Star Media deal
Feb 3, 2010
TORONTO -- Russian exhibitor Rising Star Media has ordered two more super-sized digital theatre systems from Imax Corp.
The move follows Shari Redstone and private-equity investor Charles Ryan of UFG Private Equity last month buying National Amusements' five Russian multiplexes -- which already housed two Imax screens -- and signaling expansion under the Kinostar brand ( HR, Jan. 7).
Rising Star will install a new digital screen in Moscow and upgrade an existing film-based theatre in St. Petersburg to a digital projection system.
Redstone and Rising Star Media CEO Paul Heth founded Rising Star Media in Russia in 2002 with National Amusements.
