Cinemark Brings XD Theaters to Alaska and Illinois
Nov 4, 2009
Theater-goers in Anchorage and Chicago can look forward to a new theater experience in time for the holiday movie season. Motion picture exhibitor Cinemark announced today (Nov. 4) that it will open two new Cinemark XD: Extreme Digital Cinema auditoriums on Nov. 6 in two of its theaters--one in Anchorage and one in Evanston, Ill.
The company’s new digital solution format theaters offer audiences an enhanced viewing experience via ceiling-to-floor and wall-to-wall screens, JBL sound systems with over 30 speakers, Doremi servers and 30,000-lumen Barco digital projectors. The renovation will kick off with a Real-D 3D version of Disney’s A Christmas Carol.
“We are very excited to introduce these new Cinemark XD, Extreme Digital Cinema auditoriums to our guests in Anchorage and Evanston,” said Alan Stock, Cinemark’s CEO, in a statement. “We have opened nine XD auditoriums and plan to open six more before the end of the year. We show the newest movies every week in these auditoriums, including Real D-3D pictures.”
In the past month, Cinemark has rapidly increased its number of XD style auditoriums with openings in cities including San Francisco, Austin, El Paso, Las Vegas and Pittsburgh. Beyond the upcoming Anchorage and Evanston openings, new XD locations are planned for Albuquerque, Tucson Union City (CA), Daly City (CA), Hanover (MD) and Houston.
