GDC to add digital cinemas at Hong Kong's UA and Broadway circuits

Dec 8, 2009

GDC Technology closed deals with Hong Kong’s UA Cinemas and Broadway Circuit to supply DCI-compliant digital-cinema equipment under the virtual-print-fee (VPF) scheme.

GDC has VPF agreements with 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures International, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures International and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International. The participating studios make financial contributions for a limited time towards the hardware cost of DCI-compliant digital equipment deployed by GDC.

UA already has 13 GDC systems installed at seven cinema sites. The new contract will see another 20 systems installed by the end of 2010. Broadway Circuit currently has 32 systems installed at 12 cinema sites and will add another 18 GDC systems by the end of 2010.

“We are pleased to engage GDC again to outfit our new digital cinemas, as we are thoroughly impressed by GDC’s quality products and excellent technical service,” said Bob Vallone, director and general manager of UA Cinemas’ parent, Lark Multimedia Ltd.

“Having picked GDC as the working partner for our digital rollout program is a real blessing, as it has given us many years of reliable hassle-free service,” said Tessa Lau, executive director of Broadway Theatre Company Ltd.
