New Vue cinema installs full suite of Sony technologies

Feb 5, 2014

Vue Cinemas, Gateshead, a new deluxe cinema multiplex at the Metro Centre in Gateshead, U.K., has installed an extensive suite of Sony technologies.

Gateshead is the first of Vue’s cinemas to use Sony’s SRX-R515P 4K digital-cinema projectors with high contrast ratios and 4K ultra-high-definition resolution. Two projectors are also equipped with the Sony 3D solution.

Sony’s Entertainment Access technology is installed in every auditorium, making it the first cinema in the U.K. to install a wireless enhanced audio and audio description system for the hard-of-hearing and visually impaired.

A number of Sony large-format digital signage displays have been positioned throughout the multiplex, providing digital menu boards, film times and up-to-the-minute seat availability.

Finally, Sony IP CCTV Security systems consisting of around 40 cameras located across the complex, including infrared cameras in all auditoriums plus the Sony Real Shot Manager Video Security management system, have been installed. The system is not only used for traditional purposes, but also allows for a greater feeling of comfort and security. In-auditorium infrared cameras relay images that can be clearly seen in the foyer at all times, discouraging film theft and disruptive incidents.

Roland Jones, technical services director of Vue Cinemas, commented: “We are truly excited to be bringing the full Sony offering to our customers. We always aim to go the extra mile and provide our customers with the best possible cinema experience in a safe and secure environment, and having Sony equipment installed throughout the complex means we are taking it to a whole new level.”

David McIntosh, director, Sony Europe, stated: “The new Vue Cineplex at Gateshead is the first cinema in the U.K. to install our wireless technology, making it one of the most high-tech cinemas around today. Cinema-goers can enjoy the full Sony suite of technologies from the minute they walk into the cinema foyer through to the auditorium, where they can get the best possible viewing experience.”
