Wanda Cinemaline selects Dolby Atmos for X-Land giant screen

April 17, 2013

Las Vegas—Wanda Cinemaline Corp., owner of the largest cinema chain in China, has chosen Dolby Atmos as the standard audio system for its giant screen, X-Land, and plans to equip all current and forthcoming X-Land screens with Dolby Atmos technology. The new audio platform allows filmmakers to place and move sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, drawing audiences into the story, and making them feel as if they are in middle of the action.

Wanda Cinemaline plan to install Dolby Atmos capability in at least six of the cinema chain’s X-Land locations by the end of 2013. The chain aims to debut the technology in its Chongqing Wanzhou cinema branch in July 2013.

“When we build Wanda X-Land, we want to provide audiences with the best cinema audio and visual experience possible,” said Ye Ning, general manager, Wanda Cinemaline. “We have been very impressed by the truly stunning sound effects and the extra dimension Dolby Atmos brings to cinemas.”

“Major studios, directors, sound teams, and exhibitors from around the world have embraced Dolby Atmos as the clear choice for delivering next-generation cinema sound to moviegoers,” said Doug Darrow, senior vice president, cinema, Dolby Laboratories, Inc., which made the announcement about Wanda Cinemaline at CinemaCon 2013. “Patrons of Wanda’s X-Land premium cinemas in China will soon get to experience cinema sound as if they, too, were right in the middle of the action.”

This feel-good, looks-great first-time big-screen adaptation of the beloved British children's stories about a stowaway Peruvian bear finding his, er, bearings in London is much more than just, oops, bearable.
