Leading sound companies spread the news about their latest products and technologies for cinemas

Alcons Audio
Alcons Audio introduces the Cinemarray™ system, a modular cinema line-source front system for large to very large cinema rooms, where hi-fi response with long SPL throw and ultimate dispersion control is required.

Integrating its pro-ribbon line-source technology into cinema sound system design, Alcons enhances the digital-cinema experience further. The acoustical coupling from this array technology significantly reduces the typical SPL drop-off from front to rear (up to 15dB in medium-sized rooms), resulting in a "proximity" effect, dramatically enhancing the cinema experience front to back of the room. At the same time, this technology offers a tightly controlled dispersion, preventing unwanted ceiling reflections in acoustically challenged venues. (alconsaudio.com)

Crown Audio
Engineered from the ground up for top quality and performance, the Crown DSi Series of power amplifiers offers four models of 500W, 800W, 1,200W, and 2,100W per channel at 4 ohms. Onboard digital signal processing includes crossovers, EQ filters, delay and output limiting. Rear panel HD-15 connector provides easy input/output connectivity between DSi amplifiers and the new DSi-8M System Monitor. At the touch of a button, Crown’s DSi cinema amplifiers deliver perfectly matched performance with each award-winning JBL ScreenArray® system. (crownaudio.com)

Datasat Digital Entertainment
Datasat Digital Entertainment (formerly DTS Digital Cinema) has combined its vast experience in conventional analog sound systems with state-of-the-art digital signal-processing technology. The result: the AP20 Audio Processor. Engineered to deliver precise reproduction of both analog and digital sources, the AP20 leverages the power of six analog devices 400 MHz DSPs. The AP20 offers 16 channels of digital and eight channels of analog inputs coupled to the 16 digital and 16 analog outputs. In addition, the AP20 features individual and global channel delays, third octave and parametric EQ, Dirac Live® room optimization and three expansion slots for future development. Dolby Laboratories
Dolby Surround 7.1 delivers a premium listening experience by more fully immersing audiences in the action. Easy to implement with standard Dolby equipment, Dolby Surround 7.1 heightens the impact of movies by giving filmmakers greater control over the placement of each detail in their soundtracks. The latest in cinema innovation from Dolby, a partner to studios and exhibitors for 40 years, Dolby Surround 7.1 uses eight discrete channels to establish four surround zones within a theatre. This improves panning and sound localization, enhances definition, and expands the listening sweet spot. Immerse audiences in a more vivid cinema experience with Dolby Surround 7.1. (dolby.com)

JBL
JBL has introduced two new Ultra High Power 4-Way ScreenArray® Systems, the model 5742 and the 5732. The new large-format 5742 ScreenArray features a 4” titanium diaphragm high-frequency compression driver providing 125 watts of power coupled with a quad midrange with four 8” CMCD™ cone midrange compression drivers, providing 1,400 watts of smooth midrange coverage. The low-frequency section features double 18” Super Vented Gap™ low-frequency drivers, with over 1600 watts for high output power with minimum distortion. The 5742 is an ideal sound system to complement the large-format 3D visual experience.

The new 5732 Four-Way ScreenArray also employs the 4” 125-watt high-frequency driver, with a 700-watt dual 8” CCMD midrange section, coupled with a double 15” low-frequency section featuring 1,200 watts of low-frequency power. The 5732 provides significant power in a compact system for the headroom required in post-production venues and cinemas worldwide. (jblpro.com)

QSC Audio
QSC’s new DCP 100 Digital Cinema Processor provides complete signal processing and monitoring functions in a single integrated, rack-mount system. Offering many of the same features as the popular DCP 300, the unit is ideal for six to eight channel systems that do not require CobraNet® network audio distribution or 16 input channels. The DCP 100 greatly simplifies system wiring and set-up, significantly reducing installation time and labor costs. Inputs are provided via standard DB-25 cables, while output connections are made via a single QSC DataPort/VGA-style cable. PC-based software enables easy set-up for optimal loudspeaker performance. Suggested list price is US$6,000. See the DCP 100 at booth 242. (qscaudio.com)

SLS Loudspeakers
The CS-MH2806 from SLS is a mid/high bi-amp cinema loudspeaker. Its primary application is use as a full-range screen channel with the CSB215 mid-bass enclosure in large theatres.

The CS-MH2806 high-frequency section features a high-performance PRD1000 planar ribbon transducer. The unique design and properties of the planar ribbon driver allow for very clear delivery and transient accuracy even at the limits of its performance.

The midrange section uses dual 8” drivers mounted on a wave guide to match the dispersion pattern of the PRD1000 ribbon. The drivers feature a large, vented magnet structure with a flux-demodulation ring-magnet system which divides by three the harmonic distortion in the lower-frequency domain and reduces the inductance modulation by 50%, leading to dynamic and stable sound quality. Stage Accompany / Stage Acoustics
Stage Acoustic’s Direct Screen Series has been designed to deliver the best possible cinema sound by placing the loudspeakers directly above the projection screen, instead of behind it. Through innovative use of Stage Acoustic technology, the sound coming from the left, center and right channels still seems to be coming from where the action is: the cinema screen.

Without the interfering screen between loudspeaker and listener, cinema audiences can now fully enjoy direct, un-muffled cinema sound and appreciate the precise sound balance as the filmmaker intended it.

Fitted with ribbon technology, the Direct Screen Series DS24 offers first-rate clarity and speech audibility, preventing listening fatigue. (stageaccompany.com)

USL
USL has taken its vast cinema exhibition and manufacturing knowledge to a whole new level with the release of the JSD-100. The basic unit offers ten channels of 96 KHz 24-bit audio and two COAX inputs and one channel TOSSLINK. It has eight channels for the auditorium and two channels for ADA compliance. Optional rear interface boards will support crossovers, and up to 30 channels. Networked audio and direct digital outputs to amplifiers will also be supported. Other features include multiple inputs for bypass audio, SD memory card to back up and store all settings, and a global time delay for video and audio synchronization. (uslinc.com)
