ICTA holds Summer Business Retreat in Washington

Aug 5, 2014

The International Cinema Technology Association (ICTA) held its annual Summer Business Retreat in Washington, D.C., in late July at the historic Willard InterContinental hotel. Attendees included members from across the U.S. as well as international constituents from Russia, Germany and England.

The three-day event included addresses from such industry leaders as MPAA president Chris Dodd and CTO John McCoskey, NATO president John Fithian, and Landmark Cinemas COO Neil Campbell. Topics of discussion included premium seating, laser projection, an update on digital penetration, and what’s new from the cinema manufacturer community. Attendees also visited the American Film Institute Silver Theater and Cultural Center in Silver Springs, Maryland. The ICTA also held both board and membership meetings where future decisions regarding additional ICTA worldwide events were discussed.

“I’m delighted with the turnout to our annual Summer Business Retreat,” stated ICTA president Joe DeMeo. “We specifically targeted our nation’s capital this year in order to attract more attendees from our European base, which makes up over 30% of our membership, and I’m pleased to say that we accomplished this goal.”

“Having the retreat in D.C. this year allowed us to leverage our relationships with both NATO and the MPAA,” said ICTA executive cirector Robert Sunshine. “To have speakers from both of these organizations speak to our attendees was a wonderful opportunity for them.”

ICTA Dealer of the Year and Manufacturer of the Year Awards were presented to Tri-State Theatre Supply and Ultra Stereo Labs, respectively. The prestigious Ioan Allen award went to Beth Figge from Doremi.

Next year’s ICTA Summer Business Retreat will be held in Austin, Texas, during the week of July 12, 2015.

The International Cinema Technology Association consists of members from the worldwide cinema community in all markets including exhibitors, dealers, manufacturers and service providers. At 200 members strong, the ICTA holds various events during the year, most notably the January Seminar Series held at the Universal Hilton in Universal City in Los Angeles. Hunger Games - Mockingjay Pt 1
Film Review: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

Darker, less action-packed first half of the final installment of the popular franchise moves from arenas to rubble aplenty as Jennifer Lawrence’s super-heroine is called upon to serve her beleaguered and much-destroyed nation as propaganda instrument and leader. Fans of the books and previous two films get a less flashy palette here, but the engaging characters and strong story return to stir interest for the scheduled November 2015 finale. More »
