Godzilla to rampage in Dolby Atmos

Feb 25, 2014

Dolby Laboratories announced that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ new Godzilla will be mixed and released in the Dolby Atmos immersive cinema sound platform. The film arrives in U.S. theatres on May 16.

“Godzilla is one of the world’s most iconic monsters,” said the film’s director, Gareth Edwards. “I’m really excited we are using Dolby Atmos to truly bring this terrifying force of nature to life.”

The Dolby Atmos version of Godzilla will be mixed at Warner Bros. Stage 10 in Burbank, Calif., by Academy Award-winning re-recording sound mixer Gregg Landaker. Academy Award-nominated re-recording mixer Rick Kline will work on the music mix, with Tim LeBlanc on dialogue. Oscar-nominated sound specialist Erik Aadahl will lead the sound design and act as supervising sound editor.

“By using Dolby Atmos to place and move sounds anywhere in a movie theatre, Gareth Edwards and his team can recreate the world of Godzilla right in the auditorium, making audiences feel as if they, too, are in the middle of the onscreen action,” said Doug Darrow, Dolby’s senior VP, cinema.

Film Review: Paddington

This feel-good, looks-great first-time big-screen adaptation of the beloved British children's stories about a stowaway Peruvian bear finding his, er, bearings in London is much more than just, oops, bearable.
