Major Cineplex Group debuted the 9.200-square-meter Aeon Mall 2 in Cambodia, the most expensive theatre complex in the country, on May 30. Total cost is estimated around 500 million baht.

Smart, the leading telephone network and communications provider in Cambodia, is partnered in the branding, while Cambodia Beer lent its name to the IMAX Theatre and Blue-o Bowling. Financial leasing provider Prince Finance partnered in naming the VIP theatre, which offers a private lounge with “six-star service” from Movie Concierge.

Major Cineplex Group anticipates 120,000 people a month will visit Aeon Mall 2. In 2017, the seven-screen Aeon Mall 1 sold more than 1.3 million tickets. Aeon Mall 2 is Major’s fourth theatre in Cambodia, following Aeon Mall 1, Sorya Center and Major Cineplex Siemreap, which together comprise 17 screens and 5,000 seats in capacity.

Major Cineplex’s current international portfolio is 34 screens—25 in Cambodia and nine in Laos. The circuit plans to reach 100 screens in these countries, plus Myanmar and Vietnam, by 2020.
