NCM's 'Noovie' offers behind-the-scenes look at 'A Wrinkle in Time'

NCM's "Noovie" pre-show is giving moviegoers a behind-the-scenes look at A Wrinkle in Time before the film hits theatres on March 9. Part of their “Noovie Backlot” series, the piece showcases the film from the perspective of director Ava DuVernay, from the first to the final day of shooting with Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, Michael Peña, Storm Reid, Levi Miller and Deric McCabe.

The piece opens with the first day on the set, shooting at Crenshaw High in November of 2016. “I feel happy, strong and looking forward to sharing this whole journey with you,” DuVernay says, as she leads audiences to day 21 of shooting with the cast in Northern California’s Sequoia Park, where Reid and Miller perform a stunt scene in which the pair run for their lives as the forest appears to collapse around them.

Day 42 brought a special moment for DuVernay with a “VIP guest…the biggest, most very important person that could be here—my mom.” Fans will be able to spot DuVernay’s mother in the audience of a scene featuring Chris Pine (as Dr. Alex Murry) giving a lecture on his theories on time and space. “Can you tell she’s my mom? Do we look alike? People say we look alike,” DuVernay jokes.

The feature then jumps several weeks ahead to find DuVernay and the cast in New Zealand on Day 64, filming at the spectacular Lake Hawea. And finally comes the last day of principal photography, as the cast and crew hug and celebrate. One of the last to leave the set, DuVernay recounts her experience: “I’m euphoric and grateful.” With this film, DuVernay became the first woman of color to direct a live-action movie with a budget of over $100 million.

Moviegoers should plan to arrive at their local Noovie theatre at least 30 minutes before advertised showtime to see the exclusive A Wrinkle In Time content.

This year, through its partnership with The Walt Disney Studios, NCM will also offer behind-the-scenes looks at upcoming films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, including Avengers: Infinity War, Solo: A Star Wars Story and The Incredibles 2.
