India's Galalilte develops eco-friendly paint for movie screens

Many cinema screen surfaces for passive 3D and digital cinema are coated with solvent-based paint. Most of these paints have a chemical odor and produce a pollutant known as ground-level ozone in the atmosphere. When inhaled, the irritable odor can cause serious damage to humans and animals.

The in-house R&D team at leading screen manufacturer Galalite has collaborated with European laboratories to produce a non-toxic optical paint system for coating on all their screen surfaces. This paint keeps the screen material from "yellowing" as opposed to solvent-based coatings, without compromising on finishes and still caring for Mother Nature.

Founded in 1959, Galalite is a family-owned business based in Mumbai, India, and the first Indian company to export screens around the world.
