Sky’s the limit: Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul will be Asia’s largest multiplex
Leading Korean cinema circuit Lotte Cinema has embarked on its most ambitious project to date: the Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul, which will be the largest multiplex in Asia with 21 auditoriums and 4,600 seats. Located in the highest landmark in Korea, Lotte World Mall, the Lotte Cinema World Tower is scheduled to open by summer 2014.
Lotte Cinema World Tower is distinguished by its large-scale facilities and many specialized auditoriums based on the concept of “Art Movie City.” Each auditorium, housed on separate floors, will have its own unique concept and interior design.
Starting from the top, the 10th and 11th floors will feature the concept “City of Future Imaginaries.” The 622-seat “Superplex,” billed as the world’s largest cinema auditorium, will boast a 33 m x 13.8 m (108 ft. x 45 ft.) Harkness silver screen, along with Dolby Atmos immersive sound, QSC Array speakers, and a special Christie Quad 4K projector. This section of the complex will also include “Super 4D,” the largest 4D auditorium in Korea, with motion seats and other special effects.
The seventh and ninth floors will showcase the concept of “City of Art and Culture.” Facilities will include the “Cine Park,” a square designed for various occasions such as movie premieres and red-carpet events; “Charlotte Private,” an auditorium available for private parties; “Cine Family,” a specialized facility for family audiences with young children; and “Arte Ani,” which will showcase animated movies.
The fifth and sixth floors are driven by the concept “High-Class City of Romance.”
“Charlotte” will be a high-end, first-class auditorium with deluxe service. Also in this area will be “Arte Classic” for art-house films and “Cine Biz,” an auditorium for business meetings, gatherings, and conferences with movie screenings.
The complex will feature Dolby Atmos sound in six auditoriums and Christie Vive speakers in seven auditoriums.
Christie president and COO Jack Kline stated, “We have partnered with Lotte and their integration partner, Eugenetek, to make sure that this site is equipped with state-of-the-art cinema technology. Auditoriums will feature immersive audio systems with Christie Vive planar-ribbon-based line-array speakers, plus brilliant 4K projection systems, including plans for installing the latest in laser technology to provide truly immersive audience experiences. Lotte is sparing no expense to make this one of the world’s premier cinema destinations and we are proud to be a major part of this project.”
Jay Kim, country manager of Dolby Korea, noted, “Dolby Atmos brings the immersive cinema audio experience to Korean moviegoers with the most lifelike cinema sensory experience ever offered. We are very excited and honored to be working with Lotte Cinema for its additional Dolby Atmos screens at Asia’s largest multiplex located in Lotte World Tower."
Eugenetek representatives stated, “Lotte Cinema World Tower is one of the biggest projects we have ever had. We are truly thankful to Lotte for giving us this huge opportunity to join in this project. We promise to do our best to provide the best-quality picture and sound to the audience.”
The 123-floor Lotte World Tower, including an observatory, hotel, offices and residences, will be 555 meters tall (1,820 feet) and is expected to be completed by the end of 2016. The 807,500-square-meter Lotte World Mall will feature such anchor tenants as Lotte Department Store, Lotte Duty Free, Lotte Hi Mart (electronics), Lotte Concert Hall and Lotte Aquarium.
