Screenvision expands alternative-content offerings

Screenvision distributed more alternative-content programs than ever in 2013, and continues the momentum in 2014 with 11 already-confirmed events and more to come. “We are excited by the range and depth of content offerings that will bring moviegoers through our exhibiting partners’ theatres,” says Darryl Schaffer, executive VP, operations and exhibitor relations.

Screenvision partnered with Arts Alliance Media in 2013 to distribute the first part of a series including several new productions from the Royal Opera House. The series continues in 2014 with productions including La Boheme, La Traviata and Don Giovanni.

In addition to opera performances, Screenvision has partnered with Broadway producers to bring star-studded live theatre to the big screen. These performances bring a new audience of theatre patrons to cinemas and drive box-office revenue. Screenvision’s next production is Driving Miss Daisy, starring Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones for North American distribution in early June. The Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet premiered in cinemas earlier this year with a Screenvision red carpet event in New York City attended by its principal actors, Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad, and received tremendous support from moviegoers during its run. Screenvision anticipates additional programs from the Broadway category in 2014.

2013 was also a great year for family-friendly alternative-content programs such as the BBC’s One Life documentary narrated by Daniel Craig, and My Little Pony: Equestria Girls from Hasbro and Shout! Factory. Following the exceptional box-office performance, Screenvision has again partnered with Hasbro and Shout! Factory to release My Little Pony: Rainbow Rocks in late September and has extended family-friendly programming to include Barbie: The Pearl Princess and Disney XD’s Slugterra: Rise of the Elementals.

Screenvision is dedicated to developing a formidable slate of alternative-content programs that appeal to a range of moviegoers, and this year’s line-up is an expansion of popular offerings.
