ShowEast to honor Televisa's Fernando Perez Gavilan

Fernando Pérez Gavilán, vice president of Televisa International and Televisa Cine, will receive the 2014 “International Distributor of the Year” Award at ShowEast during the International Awards Program on Oct. 27 at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood, Florida.

“It is a great honor for ShowEast to be able to single out Fernando for all he has done throughout his career as a respected and admired international distribution executive,” stated Andrew Sunshine, co-managing director of ShowEast. “You could not ask for a more dedicated leader whose passion and commitment have helped bring Mexican film to moviegoers worldwide.”

Pérez Gavilán joined Televisa in 2004 and assumed several positions including VP of Club America. Before his tenure at Televisa, he was a founding partner at Anima Estudios, an animation studio in Mexico.

At Televisa Cine, Pérez Gavilán is responsible for the production and distribution of films in Mexico and the US. Televisa Cine has been distributing Mexican films since its creation, and in the past couple of years has become the leading distributor of Mexican films, including No Se Aceptan Devoluciones, Amor a Primera Visa, Qué le Dijiste a Dios and Cásese Quien Pueda.

In 2010, Televisa Cine partnered up with Lionsgate to form Pantelion, which distributes Latin films and films with Latin content in the U.S. across all windows. With this venture, Televisa Cine’s objective is to increase Hispanic moviegoing as well as revenues for Mexican films.

At Televisa International, Pérez Gavilán has been responsible for the recent productions of Televisa in Colombia, Brazil, Spain, and China, as well as the sale of Televisa’s Mexican content throughout the world. As a result of this strategy, Televisa International’s sales have doubled in the past four years.

ShowEast 2014 will take place Oct. 27-30 and will feature screenings of major upcoming films, sponsored events, timely seminars and a trade show. An estimated 1,300 members of the motion picture industry are expected to attend.
